DescriptionTechnical description: silver-plated brass; inner slides chrome-plated with stockings; (no spring buffers); slide lock and screwed bell lock at joint. According to the firm's archives [instruments books], the instrument was model 4040, made in a batch of twelve. Overall size: 1158; bell 180. Bore: descending slide, 12.3; ascending slide, 12.3; m.t.s. proximal 14.0. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 12.1 - 11.2. Inscribed on bell "Imperial / ''4040'' / MADE BY / Boosey & Hawkes Ltd. / London / MADE IN ENGLAND" and "HP / 208589"; on bell section at joint "589"; on proximal leg of main tuning slide "589". Decorative features: counterweight in form of globe representing the Earth, with a plume and a music note. With original fitted hard case, covered in black leathercloth. Fabric label on inside of lid inscribed "Mayers & Harrison Ltd. / MUSICAL INSTRUMENT MAKERS / GREAT JACKSON STREET / MANCHESTER 15." Usable pitch: Old Philharmonic Pitch.
