DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood with ivory ferrules and brass keywork. Five pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, upper section, lower section, bell. Mouthpiece: blackwood, grooved for cord with 11 grooves. Long table, long tenon; overall size: 77.6, without tenon: 47.4, aperture 27mm. Barrel made for a long tenon, waisted, with two flat ivory ferrules. Upper section: short speaker key and short A♮ key; speaker liner projects almost to the centre of bore. Lower section: wide ivory ferrule, no thumb rest. Levers for L4, tone-hole and key for R4 mounted in a bell-shaped swelling. Leaf springs. L0: T; speaker. L1: T; throat A♮. L2: T. L3: T. L4: E₃/B♮₄; zig-zag F♯₃/C♯₅. R1: T; trill key for throat A-B♮. R2: T; R3: T. R4: T; G♯₃/E♭₅. Keymount type: blocks; with bell-shaped swelling. Keyhead type: square flat. Ivory rim on bell cracked twice on full length. Mouthpiece has marks from a player's teeth. General usage of type: Early military bands. Beethoven scored for F clarinets in his military marches.
