DescriptionTechnical description: Silver-plated brass. Long bell projecting forwards suggests this was intended as a `Bach trumpet'. Bore profile that of a soprano cornet. Valve type: 3 Périnet valves, bottom sprung; alignment by key on piston. Inscribed on bell "50 MEDALS OF HONOUR" within ribbon / monogram FB / "F. BESSON / ``Prototype'' / 198 EUSTON ROAD / LONDON" / five-pointed star / ENGLAND / C. FISCHER / 6. 4th. Av. N.Y. / SOLE AGENT U.-STATES"; on side of 2nd valve casing "F. BESSON" / five-pointed star / "Bté. S G D.G." all within ellipse / "42785"; on valve top and bottom caps and on side of casings "7", "8", "9". Overall size: 573; bell 117. Sounding length: minimum 923 (in E♭ at Old Philharmonic pitch) or 1117 (in C at A⁴ = 440Hz). Bore: mouthpipe at c 13mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 8.65; m.t.s. at c 245mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning-slide bores 11.1 - 11.35; centre of valve cluster at 360mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (3, 2, 1) 11.35; at 589mm from bell end, c 11.36; at c 262mm from bell end, 16.0; at c 250mm from bell end, 16.45; at 18.6mm from bell end, 63.8. B = 0.55 (in E♭); 0.57 (in C). Bell cutoff = 1400 Hz. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 9.8 - 8.65. Decorative features: floral embelishment around inscription on bell.
