DescriptionTechnical description: The octagonal, concave, pernambuco stick ends in a chunky modern head with an ivory headface. The stick mortise is very small and there are two lines on the bottom face of the stick (11.5mm and 57.9mm from the end of the stick, not including the button). The stick has no nipple. The screw-mechanism, squared (without sharp corners) ebony frog has a mother-of-pearl slide and a silver (?) ferrule with a wooden ferrule wedge. The bone button has an ebony button eye and is octagonal with a rim. Measurements: Weight: 55g (hair missing). Hair length: 623mm (measured from the ferrule though the ferrule wedge protrudes and shortens the hair). Balance point: 264mm. Head height: 25.2mm. Head width: 11.0mm. Face length: 25.3mm. Tip diameter: 6.5mm. Frog diameter: 9.0mm (measurement point calculated from the end of the stick rather than the button). Period of oscillation: 1.34. Distance from pivot to tail: 63.4mm. Button length: 13.35mm. Ferrule width: 11.9mm. Frog + stick height: 27.15mm. Frog top length: 41.8mm. Inscriptions: There are four lines, the last one leaning away from the others ("III/") scratched on the stick on top of the frog, in front of the stick mortise. Decorative features: Instead of decorative eyes, the frog has decorative mother-of-pearl shields. The screw does not fit well and the button does not fit flush with the stick. There is a small piece missing on the bottom of the frog, at the corner of the ferrule and slide on the finger side. There are rough edges at the top of the frog where slivers of ebony have broken off. Current ownership: Lent by J.B. Dick. |
