DescriptionTechnical description: Cross strung zither, the chord strings are above the single strings in a direction from the left hand back to the right hand front. The single strings are parallel to the spine. Back of black-stained pine, black painted sides and soundboard. All of the cross strung chord strings are the same length, the single string bridge is of two segments with note B₄ at the join. There is an iron rod let into the bridges and nuts for the strings to move over. Square-headed tuning-pins. Chords are A major/minor, D major/minor, F major, G major, C major. Two octaves single strings from C₄ to C₆, chromatic. There are covers over the hitchpins at the bottom and the right hand top. Sound-hole diameter 69. Three buttons underneath attached to back. Overall size: 510. Body length: 510. Body width: 372 (maximum), 360 (bottom), 363 (lower bout), 360 (waist). Body depth: 36. String length: chord strings, 364; single strings 442 - 179. Printed on a label glued to the inside of the back and visible through the sound hole "LION / ZITHER / Patented / MANUFACTURED BY / THE ANGLO AMERICAN ZITHER Co. / NEW YORK. LONDON. MELBOURNE. / SOLD THROUGH / OUR SPECIAL AGENTS / ONLY". On label on the soundboard "LION / ZITHER / THE / ANGLO / AMERICAN / ZITHER / CO. / NEW YORK / LONDON / MELBOURNE / TRADEMARK REGISTED". "PATENTED OCT. 7th 1899", and note names and numbers under single strings near the bottom. Note names and numbers under the chord strings. Decorative features: Polychrome paintwork around the edge and sound hole, and under the note names on the soundboard. Repair History: Number of strings broken. |
