DescriptionTechnical description: 1st, 2nd and 3rd valves compensating with respect to 4th; stands in F, 4th valve gives B♭. The 4th valve is a `registre' with a very long rotor with its axis parallel to the windway through valve 1-3; when operated, it adds additional tubing to the valve loops of the three main valves. The compensating loops of the first and third valves have their own tuning-slides, but there are no tuning-slides for the second valve on either side because of shortness of passages. Metal construction: yellow brass with german silver mouthpipe sheath, stay plates, finger hook, valve caps, levers and touchpieces. Seamless tubing. Bell segment seamed with spun bell flare, depth 100. Valve type: standard three rotary valves and fourth valve; Valves are lever linkage, separate main and F tuning-slides. Serial number: 68233. Overall size: Overall length 635. Corpus diameter 300; bell diameter 307. sounding length: segment lengths: bell segment from distal end of ferrule after valves 1407. Bore: m.t.s. 11.7; v.t.s. (4,3,2,1) 11.7. Bell flare - Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 8.2 at end. Inscribed on bell "Lidl Brno". Inscribed at distal end of mouthpipe "68233". Inscribed on undersides of key touches: first valve "5/.", second valve "5/:", third and fourth valves "5"; on side of third valve housing "S"; on top cap and side of fourth valve housing "5". With case. General usage of type: Popular student instrument in U.K. and superior versions of this model (e.g. gold brass gusseted bell) in professional use in Europe. This model is that of Lehmann (see Langwill 1980, p.103). Usable pitch: For use at A4 = 440 Hz. Performance characteristics: Reasonably free blowing in Bb, more stuffy in F. |
