DescriptionThis instrument has a soundboard of spruce; back, ribs, scroll and neck of sycamore; fingerboard and tailpiece of ebony; pegs and endbutton of rosewood; tail-gut protector of fruitwood. It is a trade instrument with a false inscription. The instrument has had much use: the varnish has worn away where the chin rests against the soundboard, and the varnish on the bass upper bout at the side and treble upper bout is lighter than the red varnish elsewhere. The back is made from two pieces with a light figure rising from the edges to the centre. There is ebony/sycamore/ebony purfling on the soundboard and the back. The pegbox/scroll and neck are made from one piece of wood. Measurements: Neck length 132mm; fingerboard length 271mm, width at nut 23.2mm, at bottom 41.4mm. Soundboard arch 13mm; back arch 12.5mm. Printed label "Sebastian Kloz / An 1700". Playing accessories: 1 fine tuner, rosin. With wedge-shaped black-painted wooden case with roof-shaped top, lined with green baize; one clasp missing.
