Leadpipe enters 3rd valve casing at the right; 3rd valve loop leaves from 30° left of front and returns to 30° left of front; 1st valve loop leaves from back and returns to 30° right of back; bellpipe exits 1st valve casing at 45° left of back. With double water-key with single touchpiece; music card holder. With two shanks. Valve type: 3 Périnet valves, top sprung; alignment by key on piston, groove in casing bore. Maker: Lafleur. London. 1862 92. Overall size: 315; bell 123. Sounding length: shank for A overall length 149; shank for A stuck in instrument, estimated length 77. Bore: shank for Bb at c 30mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 8.6; shank for A at c 30mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 8.4; shank for A at distal end, 9.6; m.t.s. at c 270mm from shank/crook receiver, tuning slide bore 11.3; (v.t.s. 3, 2, 1: stuck). Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. of both shanks 9.7 9.0. Longer shank taper: length 29.4, diameter minimum 11.0, maximum 12.0. Inscribed on bell "J.R. LAFLEUR & SON / MANUFACTURERS / LONDON.W.C"; on side of valve casings "1", "2", "3". Decorative features: embossed circular plaque on bell showing angel with two straight post horns, blowing one and holding the other like a sceptre, with motto beneath on banner: "NE PLUS ULTRA". Ornate embossed pattern on ferrules and stay baseplates. With black wooden fitted case Touchpiece missing from 3rd valve. Screw missing and part of stem broken off the music card holder. Given with and probably formerly used with mouthpieces (3603) and (3604); possibly supplied by manufacturer with mouthpiece (3603). |
