DescriptionWooden shell (`lakari'); drum head made of two goat skins with the upper cut away to leave a an outer ring, bound by leather thongs - plaited (`gajara'); tensioned by leather thongs (`baddhi', made of camel skin) with adjustable wooden blocks (`gittak' or `gatta'); drum head (`puri') weighted for tuning purposes with semipermanent mixture of coal dust. Associated with bayan (1626). Used, for example, in the film The Drum starring Sabu, producer Sir Alexander Korda. Head diameter 145mm. |
