Description3 valves. Technical description: Brass. Stockings on tuning-slides; long slides on 3rd v.t.s, allowing increase of air-column length by c 250mm. Valve type: 3 rotary valves, with cork buffers on rotors and `Mainz' leaf spring action. Repair History: The main section and the bell section probably did not originate together. Overall size: 938; bell 141. Sounding length: minimum 2350; main tuning slides allow maximum extension of 460mm. Bore: mouthpipe at c 25mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 11.05; m.t.s. at c 395mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bores 11.5 - 12.1; centre of valve cluster at c 1106mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (3,2,1) 12.1; at 1175mm from bell end, c 12.1; m.t.s. at c 1402mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bores 11.7 - 12.75; at c 400mm from bell end, 17.1; at 19.9mm from bell end, 90.1. B = 0.76. Bell cutoff = 1000 Hz. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 11.8 - 11.2. Inscribed on bell "---GH ROTH / STRASBOURG / S"; stamped on bell more roughly "22.57", and "1.57" or "4.57", some of the last group perforating the bell wall. Usable pitch: With both tuning-slides in, plays c 50 cents above A⁴ = $40 Hz; tuning-slides allow use in B♭. Purchased by lender with, but not formerly used with mouthpiece (3750). |
