DescriptionThe złóbcoki is a small box resonator string instrument played in the Tatra mountains of Poland. Its popularity waned in the early 20th century when the violin came into common use. This particular instrument is made of dark-stained wood with a narrow body of rounded oblong shape, tapering slightly towards the neck. The soundboard is made of spruce; the back, ribs, head and neck are made of sycamore; and the fingerboard, tailpiece, tail-gut protector, tailpiece pin and pegs are made of ebony. The soundboard is of one piece with medium grain. The instrument has S-shaped sound-holes with nicks in the centre at each side.The soundboard has purfling of ebony/sycamore/ebony, and there is one rib around the whole body. The back is also made from one piece inlaid with ebony/sycamore/ebony purfling. There is a violin-type pegbox terminating in wave-shaped finial. The tailpiece is attached to a wooden endpin with a loop of tailgut. Neck 136 mm long; fingerboard 263 mm long, 23.0 mm wide at nut, 41.6 mm wide at bottom. No inscription.
