DescriptionTechnical description: The round, concave pernambuco (?) stick is covered in a red-brown varnish, has black leather (?) or fake leather (?) lapping and grip, and ends in a modern head with an ivory (?) or plastic (?) headface. The screw-mechanism, squared, ebony frog has mother-of-pearl decorative eyes, a mother-of-pearl slide and a metal ferrule. Measurements: Weight: 38g. Hair length: 455mm. Balance point: 192.5mm. Head height: 22.5mm. Head width: 10.6mm. Face length: 20.8mm (measured from the mid-point to the mid-point on the head itself, rather than the headface, because the headface is broken). Tip diameter: 5.9mm. Frog diameter: 8.1mm (measured at 150mm from the end of nipple to avoid the lapping). Nipple range: 0.9 to 1.3mm. Period of oscillation: 1.19. Distance from pivot to tail: 53.2mm. Ferrule width: 11.9mm. Frog + stick height: 24.6mm. Inscriptions: The only possible inscription is a "3" scratched into the underslide in front of the screw eye. The end of the stick is very uneven and the nipple is rough. There are scratches or well-repaired cracks in the head. The mother-of-pearl eyes are not perfect circles. There is a repaired dent on the thumb side of the head. Illustration references: World-Wide Web picture at http://www.music.ed.ac.uk/euchmi/ |
