DescriptionTechnical description: Fine workmanship. Rosewood with german silver mounts and keywork. Folded air-column in manner of bassoon, with descending and ascending portions bored parallel in single block. Out-turned metal bell, silver-plated. Tone-holes are not long tunnels as in the bassoon, but relatively short passages as in the clarinet. Wooden mouthpiece with silver-plated ligature and cap.

Repair History: Bush in R1 finger-hole not original - it is of brass, knurled outside and threaded inside.
Usable pitch: Plays at A₄ = c 435-440 Hz. Performance characteristics: Speaks with difficulty; notes below written D₄ not possible.
