DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood; 5 sections; silver keys and 2 cutters; ivory studs, ferrules and mouthpiece; left-hand pipe has 7 finger-holes (top one containing ebony plug), and keys for D and D♯; right-hand pipe has 5 finger-holes, and keys for C (thumb, with ebony plug in key-hole), B and D♯; two-part wind-cap.
Keymount type: ring/knob. Keyhead type: flat square, notched and chamfered.
Stamped on upper part of cap "TURNER"; on lower part of cap "IMPROVED / PATENT" with royal arms and "TURNER / 84 / LEADENHALL STT / LONDON"; stamped on each pipe "IMPROVED / PATENT" and "TURNER / LONDON"; stamped with note names and numbers by respective finger-holes; stamped with key names by respective keyheads (C key erroneously named "D").
Performance characteristics: Lowest six-finger note (LH pipe) sounds D⁵; each pipe plays low C♯ when all finger-holes are closed (lowest finger-hole possibly also acts as a vent hole when not in use).
