DescriptionThe instrument is in two cocus wood sections and has a conical bore with an overall length 274mm, embouchure to foot 238mm. The cocus wood tree (Brya ebenus) is native to Cuba and Jamaica. It is stamped with "T Glen/ 2 & 3 N. Bank St./ Edinburgh" in dotted oval surround. The instrument, whilst in sound condition, lacks the D sharp key (and the mount is broken), and lacks the cap. Technical description: Cocus; 2 sections; [german silver] key; 3 german silver ferrules; oval embouchure-hole; large R2 finger-hole; bore above cork plugged with wood. Keymount type: knob. Keyhead type: [saltspoon]. 1 key. Performance characteristics: Range D⁴ - G⁶ (sounding E♭⁵ - A♭⁷). Usable pitch: Sounding A⁴ = c 449 Hz. |
