DescriptionTechnical description: The round, varnished (?), undulating stick is made of brazilwood and ends in a modern-shaped head with an ivory (?) headface. The stick has brown, textured leather lapping. The screw-mechanism, squared, varnished ebony frog has small, brass decorative eyes, a two-piece metal ferrule with a wooden ferrule wedge. The wooden lining for the slide is intact, but the slide itself is missing. The nickel button is octagonal with a rim. Measurements: Weight: 59.5g. Hair length: 636mm (measured from the ferrule although the ferrule wedge protrudes). Balance point: 247mm. Head height: 23.7mm (head wedge protrudes slightly). Head width: 10.1mm. Face length: (partially broken). Tip diameter: 5.9mm. Frog diameter: 9.0mm (measured at 150mm to avoid the lapping). Nipple range: 1.0 to 1.2mm. Period of oscillation: 1.36. Distance from pivot to tail: 64.65mm. Button length: 16.4mm. Ferrule width: 12.65mm. Frog + stick height: 27.2mm. Frog top length: 41.2mm. Inscriptions: There are scratches which seem to form a "V" or a "IV" underneath the stick on the frog, in front of the screw eye. The stick is warped and is an undulating shape; it was probably originally concave, but was left under too much tension or was too weak to stand normal tension, and then pulled from concave to convex and is now a mix of the two. The headface is broken off and missing from the tip to the front of the mortise. There are reddish stains on the back edge of the remaining portion of the headface. Part of the tip is broken off and missing. The slide is missing - only the lining remains. The top edges of the frog are chipped off (slivers are missing). The top of the front of the frog on the thumb side and the top of the heel on the finger side are cracked. The edges of the stick mortise are chipped off and missing. Current ownership: Gift of P.
