DescriptionTechnical description: a 2 stringed bowed instrumnet.Wooden hexagonal body, originally wiht a snake-skin sound-table; long, fretless wooden neck which goes through the body. Pegs inserted through the back of the neck. Rosette of six-pointed flower located on the back of the body. Remaining peg has decorative ivory, floral end. One peg missing, most of snake-skin on belly mssing; bridge missing. Specific literature references: Possibly one of the two 'Chinese fiddles', lent by Mr John Glen in Edinburgh Society of Musicians 1894, item 62 or 80, or, the 'Ye-kin and now, Chinese', elnt by Mr Robert Glen in Edinburgh Society of Musicians 1894, item 82. |
