DescriptionSilver-plated. The windway leads to the 1st valve; if the 1st valve is not operated, thence via the 2nd and 3rd valves and back via the 1st valve to the bell; if the 1st valve is operated, then via different passages through the 2nd and 3rd valves with longer valve loops and back via the 1st valve to the bell. Despite the inscription, the valve system is not compensating but `full double', virtually the same as the Besson & Co `Enharmonic Patent' of 1904. Shanks for B♭ and A. Valve type: 3 Périnet-type valves, top-sprung with spring outside stem, alignment by key on piston. Signature: Inscribed on bell "CLASS.A" / "TRADE MARK / BOOSEY" within trumpet-and-banner trademark / "PATENT / COMPENSATING PISTONS / BOOSEY & CO / MAKERS / 295 REGENT STT. / LONDON / 52880". Decoration: Floral decoration around inscription on bell; gilded bell interior. Usable pitch: Old Philharmonic pitch (about A = 452 Hz) Cornet. Nominal pitch: Bb etc. Maker: Boosey and Co. London. 1898. Serial number: 52880. According to the firm's archives [instrument books], the instrument was "Bb cornet plated and gilt" Model A7 made by Henry in a batch of 6. Decorative features: Floral decoration around inscription on bell; gilded bell interior. Playing accessories: 2 bits, music card holder. With leather fitted case by Boosey and Co. Spring of water key missing. Usable pitch: Old Philharmonic pitch. Performance characteristics: Good response and well in tune.
