DescriptionTechnical description: The round, concave, ironwood (?) stick has thread winding held in place by cloth tape and ends in a rounded battle-axe head with a rectangular head mortise and ivory headface with a headface lining of dark wood. The open, screw mechanism, ivory frog has an ornately carved heel shape. The ivory (?) button is waisted, like an hourglass, and has a rim. Measurements: Weight: 63g. Hair length: 643mm. Balance point: 281.5mm. Head height: 27.6mm. Head width: 9.0mm. Face length: 26.5mm. Tip diameter: 6.8mm. Frog diameter: 8.7mm. Nipple range: 1.2 to 1.3. Period of oscillation: 1.36. Distance from pivot to tail: 69.4mm. Button length: 13.1mm. Ferrule width: 9.45mm. Frog + stick height: 26.3mm. Frog top length: 42.7mm. Repair History: A chip in the stick has been partially plugged above the stick mortise. Inscriptions: The bottom of the finger side of the frog is stamped "CORSBY" upside down; the stamp is 1.55mm high and 11.82mm wide. There is one notch on the underside of stick in front of the cloth tape. There is a crack from the nipple to the stick mortise, and the top of nipple to the dent in the stick. The head is worn and the headface and liner do not fit well. The button is cracked. The top of the back of the finger side of the frog is chipped. A chip in the stick has been partially plugged above the stick mortise. Associated by pre-1969 labelling and probably given with violin (325) and bow (318).
