Technical description: Silver-plated brass. The long model `Clippertone' with diagonal overall layout of windway through valves; Two main tuning-slides. Leadpipe enters 3rd valve casing at the right; 3rd valve loop leaves from 15° left of front and returns to right; 1st valve loop leaves from 45° right of back and returns to right; bellpipe exits 1st valve casing at 30° left of back. With 2 water-keys; fitting for music card-holder. Valve type: 3 Périnet valves; top-sprung with spring outside stem; alignment by key on piston. Maker: Hawkes and Son. London. Circa 1930. Serial number: 60626. Overall size: 388; bell 121. Bore: mouthpipe at c 25mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 8.4; m.t.s. at c 183mm from mouthpiece receiver, first tuning slide proximal bore 10.9; first tuning slide distal bore 11.3; second m.t.s. 11.3 11.6; v.t.s. (3,2,1) 11.6. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 9.7 8.8. Inscribed on bell "The Clippertone" / hawk and globe trademark / "HAWKES & SON / MAKERS / DENMAN STREET / PICCADILLY CIRCUS / LONDON. W. / 60626"; on valve casings and caps "7", "8", "9"; on 2nd valve casing " * / HAWKES & SON / LONDON / 1". Usable pitch: plays at A4 = 440 Hz; tuning slides allow lowering of pitch by up to 100 cents.
