DescriptionTechnical description: Brass; bell forward form. The bore profile, with no expansion in the first half of the tube, is closer to that of a trumpet than to that of a cornet or saxhorn. The short form, however, is not typical of a trumpet. Shanks and crooks would not appear to have been intended, since the mouthpiece receiver is not set back. It is not known what name would have been used for this instrument by its maker or original users. Valve type: 3 Berlin valves. Inscribed on bell with trademark: shield, surmounted by crown, flags on either side, spray of leaves below / Gautrot Breveté / A PARIS". Usable pitch: c 30 cents below A⁴ = 440Hz. Overall size: 322; bell 128. Sounding length: minimum 1348.
