Technical description: 25 brass tubes, some plated, of diameter 21 and lengths 290|-|135. Mounted in keyboard layout through holes in wooden frame of length 718 and width 174|-|350. The frame closely fits in a wooden case. The bars are supported at their `node points' in loops of string hanging centrally in the wooden frame holes.
General usage of type: Used as solo instrument in military and concert bands. A passage in Khatchaturian's ballet suite Gayenah was written for this type of instrument, but is now played on a xylophone.
