DescriptionTechnical description: The octagonal, concave, pernambuco, varnished stick has black leather lapping and ends in a modern head with an ivory (?) headface and ebony headface lining. The screw-mechanism, squared, ebony frog has mother-of-pearl decorative eyes and a mother-of-pearl slide. The underslide and heelplate are nickel and the ferrule is silver (?). The ebony button has two nickel rings, ends in a mother-of-pearl button eye, and is octagonal with a rim.
Measurements: Weight: 58.5g. Hair length: 646mm (measured from ferrule although the ferrule wedge has come out, slightly shortening the hair). Balance point: 270.5mm. Head height: 24.8mm. Head width: 10.3mm. Face length: 23.0mm. Tip diameter: 6.5mm. Frog diameter: 8.4mm (measured at 200mm to avoid the lapping). Nipple range: 1.7 to 1.8mm. Period of oscillation: 1.36. Distance from pivot to tail: 67.55mm. Button length: 15.0mm. Ferrule width: 12.3mm. Frog + stick height: 27.1mm. Frog top length: 42.0mm.
Inscriptions: There is an "X" scratched into the underslide in front of the screw eye.
The mother-of-pearl button eye is an uneven circle. The ebony and nickel on the button is split and the ring on the end is not in line with the facets of the ebony and the first ring.
General usage of type: Trade bow.
Associated by pre-1969 labelling with violin (349) and bow (322).
