Description3 valves. Technical description: Brass with silver trim. 3 valves; blade-shaped bow guard (like ophicleide) on lowest bow; silver garland c 37mm wide. Valve type: 3 rotary valves; cork buffers on rotors; clocksprings on touchpiece axles. Overall size: 875; bell 203. Sounding length: minimum 5390. Bore: mouthpipe at c 15mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 13.2; centre of valve cluster at c 587mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (1,2,3) 18.1; m.t.s. at c 896mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 18.15; at 2695mm from bell end, c 18.4; at c 1067mm from bell end, 26.0. B = 0.57. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 14.0 - 13.21 (taper in first 15mm only). Inscribed on garland "K. Schamal / Tovarna na hudebni nastroje v Praze"; on applied silver shield on side of bell "A F" surmounted by crown. Decorative features: bell stay in shape of letter "S" with arrowhead tips; 8 pointed star patterns on valve rotor top plates. Lower end of touchpiece support bar decorated with pierced trefoil (upper end apparently broken off). Braided cord in red, green and white. Purchased by lender with mouthpiece for bass trombone (3869). |
