DescriptionThis instrument has a soundboard of spruce; ribs, back, neck and scroll of maple; fingerboard, tailpiece, tail-gut protector of ebony; pegs and endpin holder of rosewood. The instrument has an orange varnish and dyed pear/poplar/dyed pear purfling. The soundboard is wide grained, and there is fine figure on the two piece back, with figure rising from the edges to the centre. There is a plugged hole on the back at the top, offset from the centre line. The head and neck are of one piece. Measurements: Unvarnished neck 245mm long; fingerboard 508mm long, 26.5mm wide at nut, 59.2mm wide at bottom. Soundboard arch 27.5mm; Back arch 27mm. Inscription: Labelled "CARLEEN HUTCHINS / SUS No 148 / Montclair, N.J. 1971", the 148 and 71 handwritten, the rest printed. "CMH" monogram on label in centre, and handwritten "G-D-A-E"/ "Burritt Miller allumi / Scuola Cremonensis / Montclair facebat 1971 / pro Catgut Acoustical / Society", and "Louis W. Dunham / Maplewood" labels. "CATGUT / ACOUSTICAL / SOCIETY, INC" label. Handwritten G-D-A-E on the back inside. Playing accessories: 1 fine tuner, tail-pin with rubber buffer.
