DescriptionTechnical description: The concave, round, pernambuco stick has metal winding and a leather grip, and ends in a modern head with a silver headface and ebony headface lining. The screw-mechanism, squared, ebony frog has a silver ferrule, silver heelplate, silver backplate, and silver button in a rimmed octagonal shape. The slide and the eyes are mother-of-pearl. Measurements: Weight: 61g. Hair length: 650.5mm. Balance point: 258.5mm. Head height: 24.6mm. Head width: 10.1mm. Face length: 24.5mm. Tip diameter: 5.75mm. Frog diameter: 8.3mm (measured at 150mm to avoid winding and grip). Nipple range: 1.5 to 1.67mm. Period of oscillation: 1.41. Distance from pivot to tail: 67.55mm. Button length: 16.0mm. Ferrule width: 11.9mm. Frog + stick height: 26.2mm. Frog top length: 43.35mm. Inscriptions: The stick is stamped "JAs TUBBS" over the frog on the thumb side; it is 1.37mm high and 15.67mm wide. There is a line, "I", scratched on the bottom of the stick behind the grip and there are illegible marks on headfae, which look as if they might read "WIP". There is a left-rotated "T" near the front (tip end) of the underslide. With original box bearing printed label "FROM JAMES TUBBS & SON, / Viollin Bow Makers & Experts, / ONLY ADDRESS - 94 WARDOUR STREET, LONDON, W. / Established over 100 years.". The mother-of-pearl is corroded. The headface is scratched under hair around the edge of the mortise. Given with and possible formerly used with violin (0967).
