Description3 valves. Mayers or one of his sons may have been one of the original partners of Mayers and Harrison of Manchester. According to Langwill (1993), Mayers & Harrison active from 1923. Technical description: Brass, with no loop over valves. With water-key and music card-holder fitting. Valve type: 3 Périnet valves. Repair History: The legs of the main tuning-slide have been extended to lower pitch from Old Philharmonic, adding c 134mm to sounding length. Overall size: 682; bell 260. Sounding length: minimum as extended for low pitch, 2666. Bore: mouthpipe at c 30mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 11.4; m.t.s. at c 313mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 14.4; centre of valve cluster at c 722mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (3,2,1) 14.4; 1333mm from bell end, c 28.3; c 1002mm from bell end, 40.2. B = 0.41. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 12.7 - 11.7. Inscribed on bell "CLASS / A / J.B. MAYERS & SONS / CONCORD / 15 LIVERPOOL RD. / MANCHESTER / 1046" (the `B' is not clear and could be a `P'); on side of valve casings "4", "5", "6". Usable pitch: As modified, plays at A4 = 440 Hz. |
