DescriptionTechnical description: Long model, german silver, with garland; fixed mouthpipe. Valve type: Three side-action Allen valves (with flattened windways to give a narrow valve with fast action) and side-action touchpieces connected to the valve spindles by string; helical springs. Maker: Hall and Quinby. Boston, U.S.A. 1865 76. Overall size: 415 without mouthpiece; bell 124. Sounding length: minimum 1204. Bore: at c 35mm from mouthpiece (minimum bore) 10.8; v.t.s. at c 128mm from mouthpiece receiver, valve tuning slide (1,2,3) bore, 10.8; and m.t.s. 10.8; 602mm from bell end, c 11.9; c 394 from bell end, 16.8. Inscribed on upper side of bell "Made by / HALL & QUINBY / BOSTON."; on side of valve casings and of top caps "7", "8", "9". Decorative features: Engraved with foliage around inscription. Usable pitch: Plays over 100 cents above A4 = 440 Hz; pulling tuning slide 60mm allows use at A4 = 440 Hz. Performance characteristics: Extremely good quick valves (makes fast passage work possible).
