DescriptionThis instrument has a body of mahogany, the fingerboard painted black. Brass banjo type tuning peg. 4 inlaid dot markers on the fingerboard. The bridge has a mahogany cover, which has been screwed on from the left hand side. Endpin at the bottom. Nut of ivory. There is a base at the bridge end, carved to shape for the player's knees. Fold over scroll without any carving. Measurements: Neck length 653mm, neck width 21mm; horn length 245mm, horn diameter at bottom 18.1mm, at top 225mm. No inscriptions. Associated with bow (2488). Specific usage history: Played by step-father of donor. Current ownership: Gift of Mrs. M. Smith, 1985. |
