Technical description: Silver-plated brass. Windway runs mouthpipe - m.t.s. - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - bell. Extension of main tuning-slide converts instrument to low pitch. Water-key. Valve type: 4 Périnet valves, bottom-sprung; alignment by key on piston. Repair History: In past converted to low pitch but since restored. Serial number: 119187. Overall size: 625; bell 232. Sounding length: minimum 2629. Bore: mouthpipe at c 50mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 10.4; m.t.s. at c 346mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 13.1; centre of 3 valve cluster at c 681mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (1,2,3) 13.0; 4th valve at c 840mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (4) 13.6; 1315mm from bell end, c 19.2; c 798mm from bell end, 22.1. B = 0.48. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 12.8 11.9. Inscribed on bell "CLASS / A" / "50 MEDALS OF HONOUR" within banner / monogram FB / "BESSON & CO / Prototype / 198 EUSTON ROAD / LONDON / ENGLAND" / five pointed star; on 1st valve casing "BESSON & CO / BREVETE" in ellipse and "119.187"; on 4th valve casing "BESSON & CO / BREVETE" in ellipse and "7"; on stems of valve touchpieces "6", "5", "4", "5"; on top cap of 4th valve "7".
