This instrument is made from attractively tortoiseshell-stained boxwood. It has silver keys and an onion-shaped balaster (short decorative pillar) at the top. Despite there being no third key, the C key has a fish-tail touchpiece as an ornamental feature. There are two vent holes in the bell which has an inward flange at its base. It is stamped on all three sections “T / STANESBY” / sunburst motif. Despite a lengthy (90mm) crack in the bell, a chip from the upper raided ring supporting the keys and the springing and hinging of both keys needing repair, the instrument sounds well with a soft, dark tone quality and excellent intonation and response over the whole range.
