DescriptionTechnical description: 3-valve model with 1st valve descending two semitones, 2nd valve descending one semitone and 3rd valve ascending two semitones. Silver-plated brass. Bell garland width 27. Three crooks associated with this instrument are (3198a) for F, two-coil, silver-plated and probably original, (3198b) for F, one coil, silver-plated, (3198c) for E♭, two-coil, brass. Valve type: 3 Périnet valves. Repair History: Crooks (3198b) and (3198c) are probably replacements; the lower end (c 135mm) of crook (3198a) is a replacement. Overall size: 600; corpus diameter 332; bell diameter 276. Sounding length: segment lengths: from distal end of ferrule after valves 620; bell segment 934. overall air column length of crooks (3198a) 1018, (3198b) 970, (3198c) 1415. Bore: m.t.s. 11.3 - 11.5; v.t.s. (3,2,1) 11.5. Bell flare: - Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. of crooks (3198a) 8.3 at end, (3198b) 8.4 at end, (3198c) 7.6 at end; external tapers of crooks (3198a) 11.6 - 12.3, (3198b) 11.6 - 12.2, (3198c) 11.8 - 12.5. Crook receiver taper on body 12.4 - 11.8. Inscribed on upper side of bell "Millereau", with poinçon on lower side; inscribed on bell garland "RAOUX BREVETÉ S.G.D.G. FOURNISSEUR DU CONSERVATOIRE 66 RUE D'ANGOULÈME PARIS"; inscribed on caps of valve housings "1", "2", "3"; on sides of valve housings: on 1st valve "1", on 2nd valve "2" / "MILLEREAU / PARIS" within ellipse / "112"; on 3rd valve "3". Inscribed on crooks (3198a) "MILLEREAU / PARIS / SCHOENAERS SR" within ellipse; (3198b) "SOL" on rectangular plate; (3198c) "F" on rectangular plate. Note that the indicated pitches are for a descending valve horn; with an ascending valve horn, crooks give pitches a tone lower. Wooden drop in chest. Usable pitch: Plays at A4 = 435 Hz with crook (3189a). |
