DescriptionParallel tubes in one piece of [box]wood, each tube having 4 finger-holes and 2 thumb-holes; the right hand tube gives the lower notes; finger- and thumb-holes have same spacing; there is a vent hole in the left tube near the foot; separate ducts in beak mouthpiece; sound holes staggered. Keyless. Performance characteristics: Lowest notes sound A⁵ (LH pipe) and F⁵ (RH pipe). Usable pitch: Sounding A⁴ = c 430 Hz (c 40 cents below A⁴ = 440 Hz). Stamped with five-pointed star and lyre / "BAUMANN A PARIS" / six-pointed star; octagonal printed paper label glued to back of mouthpiece, printing illegible. |
