DescriptionTechnical description: Nickel-plated brass. Model of cornopean with narrow minimum bore comparable with the French cornet à pistons. With shank for A and crooks for A♭, F, E and E♭. Clapper key. 1st valve: semitone; 2nd valve: tone; 3rd valve: minor third. Valve type: 3 Stölzel valves, with spring inside hollow stem; alignment by screwed pin which also locates bottom end of spring; wax partitions. Maker: by Metzler. Probably Germany. 1841 42. Apparently imported by Metzler, then retailed by Corcoran. Overall size: 260; bell 111. Decorative features: Floral embellishment on bell garland. Lacks probable crook for G. Usable pitch: High pitch, but not quite as high as Old Philharmonic, with mouthpiece (1554).
