DescriptionTechnical description: Full double, stands in F, 4th valve gives B♭. Silver-plated brass, heavy; seamed to end of bell segment; spun bell, no garland; angle between axis of mouthpipe and axis of bell 135°. Valve type: 1 rotary valve with the six ports in two planes; 3 Périnet valves, bottom sprung, alignment by key on piston and groove in casing bore. Repair History: Mouthpipe sheath a repair. Plating nearly worn off. Serial number: 14697. Overall size: 417 perpendicular to bell; corpus diameter 300; bell diameter 293. Sounding length: minimum in Bb 2780; minimum valved in C; 2496; segment lengths: intermediate segment lengths after 4th valve 172, 395; bell segment 839. Bore: minimum 8.0; m.t.s. 11.5; eight v.t.s. 11.5; 1390mm from bell end, c 12.2; 1248mm from bell end, c 13.0; c 791mm from bell end, 17.3; c 744mm from bell end, 18.4; 68mm from bell end, 118. Bell flare:- Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 8.3 at end. Inscribed on bell "14697" / trademark: fagott axe with "MONOPOLE" on banner terminated at each end by a cock's head / "COUESNON.S.A. / PARIS / MONOPOLE / CONSERVATOIRE". Inscribed (longitudinally) on bell flare "CONSERVATOIRE D'AMIENS.434."; on top and bottom caps and sides of valves "16", "17", "18"; on side of 2nd valve: trademark as above / "CONSERVATOIRE / PARIS". Usable pitch: Plays at A4 = 440 Hz with tuning slide pulled 10mm. Performance characteristics: Not very free blowing. |
