DescriptionThis 7-keyed instrument is of boxwood with ivory ferrules and brass keywork. It is in six pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, upper section, middle section for the fingers of the right hand, lower section with keys, bell. The keymounts are turned wooden rings, with block, saddle and swelling. The keyheads are flat and square. The instrument is inscribed on all sections and bell with 8 petal flower / “SIMIOT / A LYON” / 8 petal flower / “Sib”. On the middle section it is also stamped “I” and, on the lower section, also with a monogram “JS”, the maker’s initials, in a cartouche (described and illustrated as such in Langwill/Waterhouse). Technical description: Boxwood with ivory ferrules and brass keywork. Six pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, upper section, middle section for the fingers of the right hand, lower section with keys, bell. Levers for L4, tone-hole and key for R4 mounted in a fusiform swelling. C♯₄/G♯₅ key mounted in saddle. Extendable L4 levers. 7 keys. L0: T; speaker. L1: T; throat A♮. L2: T. L3: T. L4: C♯[4]/G♯[5]; E[3]/B♮[4]; F♯[3]/C♯[5]. R1: T. R2: T. R3: T, side B♮[3]/F♯[5]. R4: T. G♯[3]/E♭[5]. Keymount type: turned wooden rings, block, saddle, swelling. Keyhead type: flat square.
