DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood, with brass keys and ivory ferrules. Five pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, upper section, lower section, bell. Barrel: of modern shape, bulbous with ridged ferrules, barrel shallow for modern-type mouthpiece. Upper section: speaker liner projects c 4mm into bore; shake key has guide pillars on plate below key-head; throat A♭ key has curved touch. Lower section: ferrule of unusual angular profile; no thumb rest; rollers on R4 keys. Bell continuous, with ivory rim. L0: T; straight speaker. L1: T; straight throat A♮; short throat A♭. L2: T. L3: T; cross E♭₄/B♭₅. L4: cross C♯₄/G♯₅; straight bascule E₃/B♮₄; straight F♯₃/C♯₅. R1: T; side F₄/C₆; side E♭₄/B♭₅; side trill key for throat A-B♮ and B♭-C. R2: T;, R3: T; cross B♭₃/F♮₅; side B♮₃/F♯₅. R4: open hinge key for F₃/C₅; G♯₃/E♭₅. Keyhead type: saltspoon. Keymount type: pillars on screwed-down base plates; open-standing C♮ key mounted on oval brass plate 49mm long with hinge let into wood, secured by three woodscrews. All sections stamped with face in sunburst / N. GODFROY / JEUNE" / NG monogram. E♭ key is awkwardly placed and has perhaps been bent out of shape; barrel seized to upper section. Lower section chipped at bottom. Mouthpiece missing. Touches of L4 keys have been lengthened or repaired. Illustration references: Vol. 1 p.93. Previous ownership: Purchased by H.I.
