DescriptionTechnical description: Blackwood with german silver ferrules and keywork. Four pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, one-piece body, bell. Sharing original ebonite mouthpiece, marked for a ligature, with (5251). Body banded at top of body as a precaution. Zig-zag speaker with chimney on left side of the instrument. German silver tube in thumb-hole. All tone-holes under rings lined with ebonite. Articulated C♯₄/G♯₅ opened with L4, closed with R1. In contrast to (5251), has additional L4 G♯₃/E♭₅ lever. C sharp mechanism. 15 keys, 6 rings, 4 black rollers. L0: T; speaker. L1: T + ring + vent; throat A♮; throat A♭. L2: T + ring + vent. L3: T + ring; E♭₄/B♭₅. L4: C♯₄/G♯₅; E₃/B♮₄; F♯₃/C♯₅; G♯₃/E♭₅. R1: T + ring + vent; side F₄/C₆; side E♭₄/B♭₅; side trill key for throat G-A or C₆-D₆; side trill for throat A-B♮ and B♭-C. R2: T + ring + vent. R3: T + ring (forked B♭₃/F♮₅); cross B♭₃/F♮₅. R4: G♯₃/E♭₅; F₃/C₅. Keyhead type: modern. Keymount type: screwed in pillars. Playing accessories: ligature, wooden reed-cap. (5251) and (5485) are cased in a long brown wooden case lined with green velvet. Looks like home-made. Usable pitch: Low pitch. (5251) in B♭ and (5485) in A are not a matched pair of clarinets. |
