DescriptionTechnical description: Metal: brass, silver (?) plated; Four pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, one-piece body, bell. Ebonite mouthpiece with a long table and metal ligature. Barrel: fits over tuning extension (26mm) on body, also tenon. Body double-walled. Rod-type speaker with bowl-shaped chimney on the front of the instrument. Cross keys for R2 and R3 co-axial. Bascule E₃/B♮₄ curving round G♯₃/E♭₅ key-head. Ferrules plated, half-round on bell, twin wires on lower barrel socket; narrow half-round on upper. Simple thumb rest soldered to outer wall. Bell: continuous, with `turned-over' rim covering joint between inner and outer walls. Keys of plated brass. L0: T; speaker. L1: T; straight A♮; cross-over A♭. L2: T; cross F₄/C♮₆. L3: T; cross E♭₄/B♭₅. L4: C♯₄/G♯₅; straight F♯₃/C♯₅; bascule E₃/B♮₄. R1: T; side trill key; side F₄/C♮₆. R2: T; spectacle ring sharp₅. R3: T; spectacle ring closing vent for forked B♭₃/F♮₅; cross B♭₃/F♮₅. R4: Rod keys for G♯₃/E♭₅ and F₃/C♮₅. Keymount type: pillars soldered to metal body. Keyhead type: saltspoon. Playing accessories: With 15 reeds: 11 French, 4 un-stamped ('French' means not the maker, but the cut: the unstamped reeds are also French); 7 loose pads, 2 original Müller-type. With neat fitted case, tapered, covered (re-covered ?) in dark red rexine (?) leatherette. Mouthpiece table worn. |
