Description4 valves. Technical description: Brass, long model. Tuning-slide in distal bow. With extension piece fitting between body and tuning-slide. Extension piece differs a little from instrument in details of design and workmanship, suggesting that it was not part of the original but was added only slightly later. No tuning-slide in bell section. Wide loop at end of 4th v.t.s. Wired bell rim, no garland. Fitting for music card-holder on mouthpipe. With water-key on distal bow. R1: 2 semitones. R2: 1 semitone, R3: 3 semitones, R4: perfect fourth. Valve type: Four `Système Belge' double-piston valves, in line. Overall size: 1134; bell 183. Sounding length; m.t.s. increases sounding length by up to 164mm; extension piece increases sounding length by a minimum of 236mm, and its tuning slide can add a further 148mm. Bore: at c 90mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore), 11.6; distance to m.t.s. c640, m.t.s. bore 12.0; v.t.s. (4, 3, 2, 1) 12.0. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 12.2 - 11.9. Inscribed on bell "LE TRIOMPHE / 945" / five-pointed star / "FABRICATION / Supérieure / & / Artistique / J. PERSY / BREVETÉ / BRUXELLES" / five-pointed star; on valve section at mouthpipe "P. SENECAUT / 2055". One nut from base of touchpiece rod missing. Usable pitch: With mouthpiece (3340) plays 75 cents below A⁴ 440 Hz (in C) or 20 cents below A⁴ = 440 Hz (in B♭). Tuning-slide pulls for further semitone lowering (in C) or 2 semitones (in B♭). Purchased by lender with mouthpiece (3340). |
