Description

Small derivative of the washboard for attachment to percussionist's trap table. Panel of corrugated nickel-plated metal mounted on a silver-painted plywood base, attached to an accessory bracket.

General usage of type: Before the wide availability of drums and drum kits, the early percussionists in jazz bands used a real washboard to effect a rhythmic accompaniment to the tune. This accessory enabled the `modern' drummer to reproduce the old-fashioned washboard effect in his dance or jazz band.
