DescriptionTechnical description: The round, concave, brazilwood (?) stick ends in a modern head with an ivory headface. The hair on the bow is black. The screw-mechanism, squared, ebony frog has small, ivory (?) decorative eyes slightly offset from one another. The metal ferrule is made of two pieces, one piece forming all but the centre of the curve of a `D' shape and the other forming a strip on top of the ferrule to close this curve. The ferrule holds a wooden ferrule wedge. The slide is made of mother-of-pearl. The button is made of bone over ebony and is octagonal with a rim. The end of the button shows the bone surrounding an ebony circle. Measurements: Weight: 58.5g. Hair length: 641mm. Balance point: 284mm. Head height: 24.9mm. Head width: 9.45mm. Face length: 22.8mm. Tip diameter: 6.7mm. Frog diameter: 8.5mm. Nipple range: 1.5 to 1.5mm. Period of oscillation: 1.36. Distance from pivot to tail: 65.0mm (screw partially exposed). Button length: 13.8mm. The top of the frog is very fragile, flaking off in slivers. Part of the finger side decorative eye is broken off and no longer forms a complete circle. The ebony end of the button is cracked and chipped. General usage of type: Trade bow. (Reid Collection). |
