DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood with ivory ferrules and brass keys. Six pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, upper section, middle section for the fingers of the right hand, lower section with keys, bell. Mouthpiece probably original; of dark wood with long tenon and short table, grooved with 13 grooves for cord; length 59mm without tenon: wind cut 30mm, table 41.6mm. Barrel high-waisted, with two ivory ferrules. Upper section at top ornamented with a groove; speaker liner projects c 5mm into bore. Middle section: wide ivory ferrule, no thumb rest. Lower section: levers for L4, tone-hole and key for R4 mounted in a bell-shaped swelling. Bell almost continuous with an ivory rim. L0: T; speaker. L1: T; throat A♮. L2: T. L3: T. L4: E₃/B♮₄; zig-zag F♯₃/C♯₅. R1: T; trill key for throat A-B♮. R2: T; R3: T. R4: T; G♯₃/E♭₅. Keymount type: blocks, swelling. Keyhead type: flat square. Stamped on bell and upper section "HARRIS / LONDON / C"; stamped on mid and lower sections "HARRIS / LONDON", stamped on mouthpiece on reed side "HARRIS". Mouthpiece chipped. Repair History: Barrel of lighter wood, not stamped and possibly a replacement. |
