Technical description: Probably boxwood, in two sections with the break between holes VI and VII. There is a brass ferrule at the socket of the lower section. There is a thumb-hole at the back and seven finger holes in the front, the bell can be turned to adjust the position of hole VII according to the length of the finger. There are two vent-holes in the bell.
Usable pitch: Diapason Normal.
Performance characteristics: Difficult intonation and uningratiating tone quality. Notes above fingered D₅ (sounding G₅) impossible to obtain.
Current ownership: Purchased in 1983 with assistance from the Government's Local Museums Purchase Fund and the University's General Council Trust.
