DescriptionTechnical description: baritone bore profile. Silver-plated brass; water-key on m.t.s.; the valve bottom caps have D.J. Blaikley's patent water reservoir; no fitting for music card holder. Valve type: 3 Périnet valves, bottom sprung; alignment by key on piston. Serial number: instrument 35832; valves 31912. According to the firm's archives [instruments books], the instrument was "Bb Baritone Orpheon 3V compg" made by Bailey in a batch of 1. Overall size: 652; bell 243. Sounding length: minimum 2690. Bore: mouthpipe at c 62mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 11.4; centre of valve cluster at c 250mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (1,2,3) 13.3; m.t.s. at c 432mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 13.3; m.t.s. at c 571mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 14.2; at 1345mm from bell end, c 19.1; at c 830mm from bell end, 27.0. B = 0.53. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 12.4 11.6. Stamped on bell "CLASS. A" / "TRADEMARK" and "BOOSEY" within trumpet and banner trademark / "PATENT / COMPENSATING PISTONS / BOOSEY & Co. / MAKERS / 295 REGENT STt / LONDON / 35832"; engraved on bell "ORPHEON / BARITONE / Bb"; stamped on valve top caps and side of valve casings "13", "14", "15"; on side of 2nd valve casing "TRADEMARK" and "BOOSEY" within trumpet and banner trademark / "PATENT / 31912"; on valve bottom caps "PATENT" and "13", "14", "15". Purchased by lender with and probably used by previous owner with baritone mouthpiece (4506).
