Other InformationSpecific usage history: These clarinets belonged to the father and/or the grandfather of the donor. John Rowand Little (1878-1969) was born in Coatbridge and joined the Post Office as a telegraph clerk; he was active in local musical events and a committee member of the Coatbridge Amateur Orchestra in 1905. Later he took a keen interest in sacred music as well as playing for numerous amateur musical productions, both at North Berwick and at Lanark (where he retired as Head Postmaster). He taught his eldest son, Jack Little (19??-19??), who like his father was a keen musician and played for amateur musical societies. In 1941 he was a founder member of the Glasgow Teachers' Orchestral Society and played throughout its existence - for nearly 30 years. |
