DescriptionOverall size: Corpus diameter 355; bell diameter 315. Sounding length: segment lengths: from distal end of mp ferrule to proximal end of ferrule before tuning slide 468; from distal end of ferrule after tuning slide 609; bell segment 881. Bore: m.t.s. 11.7; 63.5mm from bell end, 137. Bell wall angle at D=100mm, 20.4. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: crook receiver taper on body 12.6 11.8. Technical description: Unusually large body and bore of rather clumsy (provincial ?) design, with branches angled to bring valve touches close to fingers. Valves with rack and pinion adjustment to tuning slides. Windway runs: crook receiver m.t.s. leg 2 1 m.t.s. leg bell. Metal construction: yellow brass; joint between bell segment and intermediate segment is butt joined, apparently with a sleeve inside some 20 long; seamed tubing, with single seamed bell and broad garland, width 40. Tuning slide has both male sections on slide, female on instrument body. Valve type: Two detachable Stölzel valves. Pistons not accessible. First valve two semitone, second valve semitone. Inscribed on bell: lion and unicorn motif / "ELLARD / SACKVILLE ST / DUBLIN". Crack in bell segment tubing. General usage of type: Orchestral / band use.
