DescriptionTechnical description: Brass with plain german silver bell garlands, ferrules and stays. 3 main valves to be played by left hand, bell-change valve by right hand. Larger bell of saxhorn proportions; smaller bell of trumpet or trombone proportions. Both bells directed upwards; smaller bell detachable by screw fitting. With alternative main tuning-slide for E♭ for larger bell. Valve type: 4 rotary valves. Main valves 1,2,3, with single cork buffer on rotor, bell-change valve no buffers. Signature mark: Inscribed "Pelitti a Milano" on large bell. Repair History: Touchpieces, springs and levers not original; the F main tuning-slide for the larger bell made by A.K.F. Wilson, c 1984. Alternative Eb main tuning slide for smaller bell missing. Overall size: 548; bells 116 and 176. Sounding length: minimum to small bell, 1841; minimum to large bell (in F) 1852. Bore: mouthpipe at c 50mm from mouthpiece receiver (minimum bore) 10.5; centre of 3 valve cluster at c 168mm from mouthpiece receiver, v.t.s. bore (1,2,3) 10.9; centre of 4th valve at c 428mm from mouthpiece receiver. Small bell m.t.s. at c 653mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 10.9; m.t.s. at c 748mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 11.0; 921mm from small bell end, c 10.3 (a marked contraction); c 271mm from small bell end, 14.6. Large bell m.t.s. at c 583mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 10.9; m.t.s. at c 682mm from mouthpiece receiver, tuning slide bore 12.4; 926mm from large bell end, c 14.4; c 566mm from large bell end, 20.4. Dia of mouthpiece receiver: m.r.t. 11.3 11.0. General usage of type: Model invented 1855.
