DescriptionTechnical description: Boxwood; 6 sections, including extension to low B on right-hand pipe; silver keys and 2 cutters; ivory ferrules, studs and mouthpiece; left-hand pipe has 6 finger-holes (top one containing ebony plug), and keys for D, F, D♯ and C♯; right-hand pipe has 4 finger-holes, and keys for C (thumb, with ebony plug in key-hole), B, F, low B and low C; high C key on head section above pipes, played by L1; two-part wind-cap. Keymount type: ring/knob. Keyhead type: 9 flat square, notched and chamfered (8 closed, 1 open-standing for low B); 1 flat round, open-standing (C♯). Repair History: Repadded. Stamped on head section "HASTRICK / 35 / HOLBORN / HILL / LONDON" and "NEW / PATENT" and "NEW C Key"; stamped on each pipe with note names and numbers by respective finger-holes, and with key names by respective keyheads. Performance characteristics: Lowest six-finger note (LH pipe) sounds B♭⁴; LH pipe plays sharper than RH pipe. Usable pitch: Sounding A⁴ = c 460 Hz (c 75 cents above A⁴ = 440 Hz). |
