DescriptionTechnical description: Blackwood with german silver ferrules and keys. Five pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, upper section, lower section, bell. Mouthpiece: ebonite with a long table. Long barrel, hardly bulbous. Upper section: speaker liner at the front of the instrument, chimney, Barret action for B♭/C on right-hand side key. Lower section: patent C sharp and alternative F₃/C₅ touchpiece for L4. There is no separate touchpiece for G♯, any of the three L4 touchpieces operate the articulated mechanism. Low E♭ key operated by right thumb. L0: T; speaker. L1: T; throat A♮. L2: T; throat A♭. L3: T; cross E♭₄/B♭₅. L4: side C♯₄/G♯₅ (Pupeschi action); E₃/B♮₄; F♯₃/C♯₅; alternative F₃/C₅. R0: E♭₃, R1: T + spectacle; side F₄/C₆ (Barret action); two side trill keys for throat A-B♮-B♭ and B♭-C-B♮. R2: T + spectacle. R3: T + spectacle (forked B♭₃/F♮₅); cross B♭₃/F♮₅. R4: G♯₃/E♭₅; F₃/C₅. Keymount type: pillars. Keyhead type: modern. Serial number: 1070. Pupeschi of Florence improved certain fingerings on both Müller and Boehm systems. Overall size: 682; 611 to top of barrel. Bore: at C₄ hole 15.0; at F₃ hole 15.5. Stamped on mouthpiece with star / "C. Mahillon & Co"; on barrel "C. MAHILLON & CO / LONDON", and at back "1070"; on upper section "C. MAHILLON & CO / LONDON / MADE AT THEIR / BRUSSELS / WORKS" and at back "1070"; on lower section with star / "MAHILLON & CO / LONDON / star / SYSTEME / PUPESCHI / BREVETE / S.G.D.G." / star and "1056", and at back "1070"; on bell with star / "C. MAHILLON & CO / LONDON" / star. With german silver reed cap. Repair History: The barrel has been shortened by about 4mm.
